You can plug any conduit to a Buildcraft quarry, but as the quarry takes a lot of power to operate, you may want to consider using at least a hardened conduit (and hardened energy cell to store/buffer the power). The quarry won't be much fun on leadstone level. I don't know if it will even start.

Try removing the quarry block and place it down again, if you use "blue markers" replace them and put down quarry block after. 2 steam engines should be over the top for a regular quarry, i only use a redstone engine but sometimes it takes a long time.

Another solution, especially if you want the quarry wireless, is to use an Energy Tesseract. As long as you supply the input tesseract with MJ, the quarry will not explode. Tesseracts are superior because they can be placed next to the quarry block, and you won't have to continue moving your power source.

You initially WANT water in your quarry. This will turn lava, which the quarry will skip over into obsidian and stone, which the quarry can handle. To remove it, just fill in the source blocks. I did this by hand in a 64x64 quarry, and only spent about an hour swimming around with a few stacks of cobble blocking up the source blocks.

Remember that the maximum quarry size is 64x64, so if your quarry is bigger than that it won't work. Once you've placed your land marks, right click one of them and if they've been placed successfully a red cuboid frame will appear. That will be the frame of your quarry.
